Project Coordinator

In the framework of EU co-funded projects, Defence for Children Italia is seeking a Project Coordinator with socio-educational experience in the field of migration processes at national and international level.


Defence for Children International is a leading child rights-focused and membership-based grassroots movement placing all members on equal footing. Created during the International Year of the Child (1979), Defence for Children International coordinated the NGO input for the drafting of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – the most widely-ratified human rights treaty in history. Defence for Children’s mandate is to ensure ongoing, practical, systematic and concerted action directed towards effective implementation of the human rights codified in the UNCRC, by means of its effective coordination between different levels (national, regional and international) and its active membership within key networks and fora. Defence for Children International counts with 37 grass-root organizations (National Sections and Associated Members) in five different continents, involving over 300 trained and specialized local staff and volunteers, who contribute daily to defend and protect the human rights of children. Defence for Children Italy joined the DCI movement in 2005 and has a legal office in Rome and an operative office in Genova. Since 2018 DCI is also member of the International Social Service.

Child Protection and Wellbeing Policy: Defence for Children International Italy, in line with its mission and vision, is committed to ensure that children involved in its activities not only are protected from the risk of harm, but also that their wellbeing, resources and participation is promoted at all times and stages. Therefore, Defence for Children Italy make any efforts to ensure that any employees, collaborators and volunteers have appropriate skills and competencies to work in this environment. A specific procedure for recruitment is contained in the “Child Protection and Wellbeing Policy” available at this link that each person that is cooperating with the organization have to carefully read and commit to.


The assignment’s main objective is the management of European projects and in particular:

  • The management of all steps of the projects in collaboration with the organisation’s team, in terms of logistic/practical organization and conceptual development
  • The elaboration of project’s reports both in English and Italian
  • The networking with institutions, public and private stakeholders working in the field of promotion and protection of children’s rights
  • The organization and running of workshops/interviews/consultation with unaccompanied migrant children and young adults in order to collect their perspectives and views to inform the projects/actions.
  • The participation and coordination of meetings with national-international partners and stakeholders;
  • The organization and conduction of training workshops and meetings with professionals and practitioners
  • Drafting of advocacy and awareness raising documents at national and transnational level
  • Drafting of Eu projects both from narrative and financial point of view.



This position is based in Genova, Italy, and can foresee independent work on distance. Duration of Contract: Ongoing full-time collaboration for 18 months, 2 months trial. PROFILE The person should have deep understanding of the CRC and all international standards related to children’s rights and human-rights based principles; acquaintance with reception system for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Italy; good analytical and writing skills; excellent communication/cultural mediation skills; problem solving and team work; familiarity and work experience in international setting; excellent oral and written English.
