Social Worker

DCI Italy is seeking a social worker to be involved in its activities at national and transnational level.  

Location: Defence for Children International Italia – Genova, Italy     

About Defence for Children International:

Defence for Children International is a leading child rights-focused and membership-based grassroots movement placing all members on equal footing. Created during the International Year of the Child (1979), Defence for Children International coordinated the NGO input for the drafting of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – the most widely-ratified human rights treaty in history. Defence for Children’s mandate is to ensure ongoing, practical, systematic and concerted action directed towards effective implementation of the human rights codified in the UNCRC, by means of its effective coordination between different levels (national, regional and international) and its active membership within key networks and fora. Defence for Children International counts with 37 grass-root organisations (National Sections and Associated Members) in five different continents, involving over 300 trained and specialized local staff and volunteers, who contribute daily to defend and protect the human rights of children. Defence for Children Italy joined the DCI movement in 2005 and has a legal office in Rome and an operative office in Genova. Since 2018 DCI is also member of the International Social Service.

Therefore, Defence for Children Italy make any efforts to ensure that any employees, collaborators and volunteers have appropriate skills and competencies to work in this environment. Overall responsibilities:

Management of the ISS activity in Italy

Assigned duties:

The social worker will work in the framework of the DCI/ISS activity at national/transnational level, handling transnational cases, undertaking research activity at national/transnational level (methodology, data collection and interviews, data analysis, drafting of report in English/Italian), organizating of public event for dissemination/exchange of practices.

Supervision: The Social Work reports to the Programme Coordinator.

Qualifications: 

  • Social Work graduate student registered at the Order of Social Workers 
  • At least 3 years experience as social worker
  • Very good English speaking and writing
  • Computer skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Organization, problem-solving, and task completion skills. 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively.
