Summary

CONTEXTUS is an integrated, multilevel, multidisciplinary training initiative directed to social workers dealing with the protection and safeguarding of particular vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees.

The project carried out training laboratories among social workers operating in Italy both in the Centres for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARA) and their reference areas, before a phase of  analysis on the spot for the identification of the training needs in each area.

Specific objectives:
  1. Reinforce, integrate and systematize social workers experiences (in terms of recognition and assistance) by building a homogeneous framework of intervention and a territorial network.
  2. Identify the training needs in each area and then, carry out training laboratories among social workers operating in Italy in the area where Centres for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARA) are situated.
  3. Create an online resource centre in order to continue and consolidate the future actions, by giving access to the stakeholders, in their daily work, to all the documentation collected and systematized during the project.

Project Duration

July 2009 - May 2010

Objective

It is based on the experiences developed in terms of recognition and assistance in the asylum system and try to reinforce, integrate and systematize these experiences building a homogeneous framework of intervention and territorial network.

Activities

The project involves the implementation of training workshops for operators preceded by recognition sessions to obtain a comprehensive analysis of the training needs of each territory. The Online Resource Center created during the initiative intends to act as an element of continuity and consolidation of the initiative since it will make the results of the implementation of the training course and other in-depth materials and documents available and easily accessible to all operators involved in the care of particularly vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees.

The activities will involve the areas of Rome, Gorizia, Brindisi, Foggia, Trapani, Caltanissetta, and Crotone.
