This policy document was prepared within the framework of the project “CREW - Contributing to Strengthening the Rights of Juvenile Persons Suspected or Defendants in Criminal Proceedings in Italy,” an initiative coordinated by Defence for Children International - Italia in close collaboration with the Department for Juvenile and Community Justice of the Ministry of Justice and co-funding from the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Program of the European Commission.
This document aims to contribute to the harmonization of national judicial practices regarding juvenile persons involved in criminal proceedings based on the principles of juvenile-friendly justice. The proposed contents are the result of a territorial reconnaissance involving judicial authorities, law enforcement agencies and social services and are addressed to institutions, authorities and territorial services dealing with persons who come into contact with the juvenile criminal justice system. It aims to instigate a nationwide dialogue around the improvement and enhancement of good practices.
Following a summary of a questionnaire completed by 29 judicial districts, a series of recommendations are proposed to guide policies for public and private entities active in the national territory.
