Diritti in piazza: supporting the path toward autonomy for young people from around the world

November 2025 - October 2026

  Genoa

SUMMARY

The initiative aims to support the integration pathway of unaccompanied foreign minors and young people from around the world who are exiting reception and protection systems in Genoa. In particular, it seeks to ensure continuity of the socio-legal support desk for unaccompanied foreign minors and young adults within this space, in connection with the follow-up of mentoring pathways for young people from around the world, and the activation of a permanent training mechanism for guardians and mentors of unaccompanied foreign minors and young migrants.

DEVELOPMENTS

Diritti in Piazza September 2022 – December 2023

The “Rights in the Square” initiative aimed to open a physical space, a close and accessible environment for young people where, in addition to receiving information and socio-legal advice, they could also find an educational space through which to exercise their rights to association and direct participation.

Diritti in Piazza 2.0 November 2023 – October 2024

Strengthening and expanding the previous initiative by ensuring continuity of the activities developed by the Child Rights Helpdesk in the space set up by the Piazza Don Gallo association in Genoa.

Diritti in Piazza 3.0 November 2024 – October 2025

Expansion of the target group due to the growing demand for support and case management.

Diritti in Piazza 4.0 November 2025 – October 2026

In continuity with previous editions, version 4.0 responds to new challenges in the regulatory context, connecting the reception system with the transition to adulthood.

OBJECTIVE

To support the integration process of unaccompanied foreign minors and young migrants exiting reception programs in Genoa.

Socio-legal assistance

To provide socio-legal assistance to unaccompanied minors and young adults, as well as to their guardians and mentors.

Mentoring

To continue the mentoring pathways for migrant youth across the Genoese territory.

Active citizenship

To support active citizenship initiatives involving unaccompanied foreign minors and young adults, through the development of ongoing training opportunities that sustain and empower their engagement.

ACTIVITIES

The project foresees the following main actions:

1. Socio-legal support:
An informal and easily accessible space where young people can find:
• Personalized legal advice
• Guidance on local services (education, healthcare, employment, etc.)
• Cultural mediation to facilitate dialogue with institutions

2. Monitoring and Research
We continue to analyse the gap between legislation and practice, with a specific focus on the transition to adulthood. Our research activity gives young people a direct voice in producing reports that inform public policies.

3. Workshops and Active Inclusion
• Sport and Teamwork: Football training sessions to foster team spirit.
• Creativity: Training workshops to develop new skills.
• Local Knowledge: Outings and meetings bringing together young people and local community volunteers.
• Film and Theatre: Weekly and monthly sessions dedicated to theatre and film screenings in collaboration with ACEC Liguria (Community Cinemas).
